History
The Kitzman family has been in the lumber and building supply business for almost 40 years. Dick Kitzman founded the company in 1979 as a small-town hardware store.
Dick’s son Steve started working at a very young age helping his family out in the store. After his college career, Steve joined the business full time, along with is sister and brother. Because of their combined talents and efforts, the family grew the hardware store into a full line lumber yard and building supply business.
In 1996 Dick opened a showroom in Dixon, IL where Steve, Vice President at the time, became the manager. It was a small showroom that focused mainly on cabinets, windows and doors. When the duo opened up the showroom in 1996, their intentions were to open up a lumber yard in Dixon. In December of 1998 a building became available for the Kitzman’s to purchase and make into a lumber yard and building supply store.
Having had the showroom in Dixon for three years before having the lumber yard was an advantage. Being in the community, a small number of people got to know the Kitzman’s . That helped us create the base of customers we continue to have to this day. We are a different company. We work extremely hard, but we also find time to enjoy ourselves with not only friends and family, but with all of our customers.
